Portable Generators and a Few Uses of Them

Today's homes are dependent on electricity. Most people take this for granted. You grab the remote, pushed the on button and the device turns on. You take your leftover dinner out of refrigerator and put in the microwave, set the time and pushed on. All these things are run by electricity. What do we do when the power goes out.

At one time or another the power goes out in all households. This is not a problem going the cool or warm months. When this does become a problem is when it is extremely hot or cold outside. Of the two, the bigger problem presents itself in the cold. This is due to the fact that if the power is out for an extended period of time, the risks of your pipes freezing becomes very real. Frozen pipes lead to broken pipes. Broken pipes lead to a flood inside your house.

A generator can prevent this from happening. It does not take a big generator to make sure that your home is safe going a power outage. A portable generator will do the trick just fine. All you need to do is have it wired so that will run the necessities in your house.

The necessities would be the fan in your air handler of the heater. As long as the fan runs it will push the hot air up through the vents and into the house. This will keep your home warm. By keeping your home warm you also prevent the pipes from freezing. The fan motor pushes the heat does not use that much electricity so there will be enough power to run more things in your home. Things such as your refrigerator, TV, a light or two and maybe even the cable box.

A portable generator will also allow you to take it with you to different places. This works out great if you're having an outdoor event. You can use a portable generator while camping. You can also use it to power a radio or mini cooler or both while parked on the beach. They're just too many uses of the portable generator to list.

To keep your house safe from damage from frozen pipes, to power outdoor equipment where there is no electricity or even to provide power for your radio when you're out in the middle of nowhere are all good uses for a portable generator. You could be the only house in the area with a source of heat other than those with fireplaces if you decide to invest in one of these generators.
